Trial Postponed...City Attorneys
Last Minute Junk Appeal & More
Deposition "quotes"
Q Have you discussed your deposition with anybody?
A No.
Q Does Cyril know you're down here giving a deposition?
A Yes.
Q How does he know that?
A Because I told him.
Q So that would be a discussion--
A They all know. Everybody knows.
Q Well hold on. I asked if you had discussed your deposition with anybody. You said no.
A Well, I mean, I haven't--just that I had it.
Q Remember the concept of I'll ask the questions, you'll give me the answers, okay?
A Yes.
Q You look disgusted by that.
A No.
Q Is there a problem with that?
A No.
Q Are you sure?
A Uh-hum.
Q Tell me what you and Cyril Kleem discussed about your deposition.
A I told him that I was coming today.
Q What did he say?
A He didn't have much to say. He said, I hope it goes well.
Q That's it?
A Basically, yeah.
Q Can you remember anything else you and Cyril Kleem discussed about your deposition?
A He gave me--just a good luck. I mean, there wasn't-there's not much to say.
Q He gave you what?
A A good luck, just a good luck today, hope you do well.
Q Was this a phone conversation?
A No. I stopped into the office today.
Q What time did you stop into Cyril Kleem's office?
A Around noon.
Q Did you guys have lunch together?
A No.
Q Were you going to his office for another purpose?
A I was picking up some papers.
Q What kind of papers were you picking up?
A Some labels to--some labels some mailing labels.
Q For what?
A For some postcards.
Q Postcards for what?
A For his campaign.
Q So you're helping Cyril with his campaign?
A Putting some labels on some cards.
Q Are you helping Cyril Kleem with his campaign to be re-elected as Mayor of the City of Berea?
A If that's helping him, yes, then I guess I am.
Q Well you tell me are you helping him?
A I don't know if that's technically helping him.
Q Do you know what the word "help" means?
A Yes, I do.
Q What does it mean to you?
A Helping means assisting him in being re-elected, which I'm putting labels--
Q That's my question.
A I don't know if you'd classify that as helping.
Q Well, you tell me if it fits within your definition. Are you helping--
A Sure.
Depo goes on and later...
Q Were you ever able to convince Cyril Kleem to come forward and say, just admit it and let's get it over with?
A Was I ever capable of that?
Q Yeah.
A No.
Q Why not?
A I don't know.
Q Did you try?
A I did tell him, if you did that, then you need to tell someone.
Q But even you couldn't convince him to come forward, could you?
A No.
Q You actually told the police that Cyril Kleem understood that you held his balls in your hand?
A Yeah.
Q What did you mean by that?
A I just meant that if--I don't know. I don't know. I don't recall. I don't remember what I meant by that.
Q Well what balls were you referring to?
A I don't remember.
Q Come on.
A I don't.
Q You're under oath, ma'am.
A I don't recall what I meant at that moment, no, I don't. I don't.
Q Right. Do you just go around saying that you got people's balls in your hands everywhere?
A I don't recall what I meant at that moment, no.
Q Well, now, looking back on it, what did you mean?
A I don't know.
Q You certainly had influence over Cyril Kleem at that point?
A Yes.
Q Your parents also had influence over Cyril Kleem did they not?
A No, not really.
Q Didn't you tell the police that your parents could ruin Cyril Kleem politically?
A No, I don't recall that.
Q You don't recall that.
Do you remember telling the police that--hold on. That your parents had helped Cyril in his political campaigns and that Cyril would not do anything to jeopardize that relationship?
A May I ask to see that?
Q Sure. But I'm going to ask you a question first.
A Can I read it in its entirety before I anser the question?
Q No. I want you to answer my question.
A I don't remember exactly what I said. Obviously it's written down there. I don't remember exactly what I said nor do I remember the order I said it in, or the exact phrasing. I don't.
Q I'm not asking you order or phrasing. I want to know did you communicate to the police, the Olmsted--or excuse me the Berea police the concept that if Cyril Kleem made your parents mad, there would be repercussions from a political standpoint?
A I don't believe I phrased that.
The attorney for Mendeluk then shows the witness a transcript of her conversation from March 25, 2011 ( page 21, line 22). He has her read it aloud.
Q Is that you talking?
A Yes.
Q Just read out loud.
A Ms. Stackhouse: My dad said he's a little upset.
Hedinger said: I can understand him being upset.
Ms. Stackhouse said: I'm sure, to calm down before he started screaming at him.
Oh, I believe he'll give him a call a little bit later and just say--you know, not threaten him, but if my parents and all of their friends find out he's not doing what he's supposed to be doing, there will be repercussions. He's been given a lot of support through all of this.
Q What did you mean when you said that there will be repercussions if your parents and their friends find out?
A I guess I'm assuming, I would say this now, I'm assuming that meant, you know, he--a lot of people have faith in him that he's a good leader and a good person, and if he were to be shown otherwise, then he would lose that faith and support.
Q Well, you say: If my parents and friends find out he's not doing what he's supposed to be doing? What was he supposed to be doing?
A Following through, getting the help that he needed.
Q And you knew that your father and your friends--and his friends could affect his political career right?
A I don't know if they could affect it.
Q Well, what repercussions could there be then?
A I just meant that their support might not be there.
Q Support for what?
A For him as they've always supported him.
Q Personally, like you know--
A Personally and professionally.
Q And you knew, did you not, that Cyril was concerned about getting in trouble and any criminal ramifications from his conduct on December 25 or January 6th as it relates to his political career, correct?
A YES.
Q And despite all of your influence on Cyril Kleem, whether you held his balls in your hand or were just close with him, and despite your family's influence and what they had done for him, Cyril Kleem in the end chose to try to protect his political career and not come forward and admit to doing things on December 25 or January 6th, correct?
A I don't know why he chose that.
Q Well I didn't ask you why he chose--
A You said--
Q No I didn't. I'll try it one more time.
Whether you said that you had Cyril's balls in your hands or not, you certainly knew that based upon your relationship with him as of January, 2011, February, March 2011, that you had influence over him correct?
A Yes.
Q All right. And you certainly understood that your family had some influence over him as well correct?
A Some influence, yes.
City of Berea and Mayor Kleem
Trial Coverage
As the trial against our city and our mayor, Cyril Kleem begins, we wanted to reassure the public that we will be covering all news related to the Mendeluk/Kleem/Berea lawsuit.
January 25, 2012 will mark the beginning of the trial by jury for the actions relating to the "Mystery Truck" incident and the "Cranston Drive Break-in."
There are some public records that were filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court back in December that we have retrieved. The interesting public record that will bring the truth of the unresolved matter is the depositions of Mayor Cyril Kleem, Mrs. Brent Stackhouse, Police Chief Schultz, Lieutenant Hedinger, Detective Sergeant Gerding, Detective Bakos (Olmsted), Safety Director/Chief Operating Officer /Personnel Point Man Ken Adams, Miss Hayley Reitz, Miss Megan Nageotte, Greg Sponseller and the mayor's family member.
So far, these are the depositions that were filed into public record that we are able to retrieve. I will quote some of the record: ** The attorney is the (Q) and the answer is the (A). We will not name the individual at this time answering the question.
Q What is your understanding of what is permissable use of city vehicles?
A From my perspective, any use of a city vehicle has to be for authorized city purposes.
Q Do you know whether anybody from the Berea police department investigated the December 25, 2010 incident?
A They may have started. Again, and it would have been prompted by a call from Olmsted Falls to look into this or to provide information, but it's my understanding at some point that we were told we were not to investigate it.
Q And who told you not to investigate?
A ...it's my understanding that Chief Schultz had relayed to the detective bureau that this was deemed an administrative issue and not a criminal issue and we were not to investigate it. We were still supposed to give our assistance. We were still supposed to cooperate with Olmsted Falls, but not to actively investigate.
Q Do you know who determined it was an administrative issue as opposed to a potential crime?
A My understanding is the city safety director Ken Adams had determined that this was an administrative issue.
Q Do you know how Ken Admas determined that?
A I do not.
Q Do you agree with the determination?
A I do not.
Q Why not?
A It was pretty obvious, again going back to the radio log that this city vehicle was used outside the scope of any legitimate city purpose. I would think that, and a city administrator, a city police official would want to know what the vehicle was being used for and what the person using the vehicle was doing. We do know that at the time that there were a number of break-ins in Olmsted Falls in that area. At least that's what we were being told by Olmsted. Could it have been that somebody used the vehicle, a city employee used the vehicle and was breaking into homes? It's possible. Could it be that somebody who's not a city employee took our vehicle? Certainly possible. We didn't know that and I felt that, and still feel that we should have been allowed to pursue an investigation to find out what the truth was, and if a criminal--if it was, in fact, criminal.
Q To this day, do you know who used the vehicle on December 25, 2010?
A I believe I do.
Q And what is your belief?
A I believe that Cyril Kleem, the mayor of Berea, was the person driving that vehicle.
(Depo goes on...)
Q I'm going to show you what's been marked Exhibit 128. This is a document I received from Berea. Take a quick look and let me know if you have seen it before.
A I have seen it.
Q The first page indicated a call from Detective, received from Detective Bakos, correct?
A Correct.
Q And it indicates that based on the information that Det. Bakos provided that a probable felony crime had occurred in the Ciy of Berea?
A Correct.
Q And what would that potential felony crime have been?
A Burglary.
Q What did you understand was the alleged burglary?
A Our understanding provided by Bakos was that the homeowner ( Stackhouse) had come home and had seen Mayor Kleem in her home through a window and that when she went inside, the mayor exited through a south door running from her home. The entry was allegedly made through a back door on the.. that could...**so that I believe furniture was piled up and a few things in front of the door, so entry was made there. There was entry into the home, univited entry, unauthorized entry. That would have been the extent of the burglary.
*** Redaction for safety reasons.
Q And did the Berea Police decide to investigate then?
A That decision was made on--it was a couple days after this when I was brought into this. It was either the 22nd or 23rd that this is information he had received from Det. Bakos and I told Det. Gute with Det. Gerding present to generate a report and that I would take it to the Chief and informed him that we were going to investigate this.
Q Is that the typical procedure you would follow in a potential burglary cae?
A No.
Q What was not typical about it?
A What was not typical was the detective bureau--well, number one, what was not typical, we didn't have a victim coming forward to report my home was entered. What was not typical in 18 years, I've never been--I've never found a victim approached an acting mayor and a city law director and informed them that someone had done this and we were still kept out of the loop. I don't believe it was intentional. It was--it's just none of this was typical. This was all unique. We had already been told we were not to investigate what we believed to be a crime already and I--the detective at the time, Det. Gute and Det. Gerding when they--
If it were typical, someone would come to them, report this potential crime, investigate. They wouldn't have to bring me into it. They would just do it. At the time, it took me to tell them, yes, this is what we do. We are police. We are going to investigate this, but that was the atmosphere at the time.
Q And what created that atmosphere?
A The Decemebr 25th truck incident. We had never been told before not to investiagte something and in hindsight--well, it all became pretty clear that March when we started doing this that--well again, we go back to what's typical and what's not typical. We've never been in a position where it appeared that the suspect of a crime was in a position to tell us through somebody else you don't get to investigate this. That's the position we found ourselves in, so...
Q Do you believe that the atypical situation that you found yourself following the truck incident and then this burglary was caused by the reason that the alleged perpetrator was the Mayor of the City of Berea?
A Absolutely. That's the only reason why any of this happened.
** Depo goes on for 3 pages and next:
Q Okay. Were you permitted to conclude your investigation into this January 6, 2011 burglary?
A Yes. I mean we--we were not told to cease and desist. We made it very clear that we were doing this investigation.
Q Why did you make it clear that you were going to do this investigation into this January 6, 2011 incident?
A In light of the interference from the December 25 truck incident, we wanted to make it clear that this was a felony and that we were not going to take direction or accept interference from either the city's safety director or someone he was taking direction from.
Q Do you know who the city safety director takes his direction from?
A It's my understanding Mayor Cyril Kleem.
Depo goes on...
Q Why did you say she should keep the information safe?
A Because we were already getting pressure from the city safety director to provide information on who we were interviewing, exactly what they said and what evidence we had. More than once that took place.
Q Is that typical in a criminal investigation?
A That's criminal in and of itself.
Q Why is that?
A In this case, if you had the suspect of a crime in a position to demand information--number one, if you had a suspect in a crime in a position to demand that you not do a criminal investigation, that's clearly obstruction. That's clearly obstructing. If you have the suspect of a crime having somebody else approach the investigators and tell them you're not doing this or trying to obtain from them any evidence, any information on what people were saying, that is in my opinion clearly obstructing. It could very easily cross the line into intimidation, the intimidation of a witness or a victim, and in this case we were going to be--if there were criminal charges and if it did go to trial, we were going to be witnesses and Director Adams was clearly trying to get information from us even after we told him no.
This is just a small , tiny portion of the depositions. There are hundreds of pages and we will be having continuing coverage of these records and the trial by jury in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. Trial starts tomorrow so please stay tuned!!
Out With The Old??
Berea could not have been that fortunate. But, the New Years Day inauguration was blessed to have Kuchinich attend. People always complained about Dennis and I always stuck up for the weirdo, but never again. How did he become a Kleem ass kissing fool? How does anyone for that matter. It is like the Berea water is spell binding..
Our beloved Mayor looked like he came out of a mountain hideout to be sworn in. The beard is like a truth or dare from his brother. Grow your beard until something big happens. Let us all hope that it does not involve married women, trucks and 19 news.
And what the heck is the deal with Mary Brown swearing in the mayor? Seriously, is she that good? Well Dale Lange loves her so I guess whatever Dale likes so does the mayor? I am of the opinion that Mary will need some major coaching when it comes to running a meeting since she never attended any recently and was a yes girl when she was an unopposed winner. OMG I hope she didn't write that sentence before, plagiarizing oh know!! Tell me it ain't so. I truly am excited to be the loser of that race since I will thoroughly enjoy ripping apart her every move on council. So put away the attitude and stuffiness and buckle up. Quite contrary.
Everyone mark your calendars for the Spirit of the Community ass kissing session from Mr. Mayor. On Jan. 24th Cyril will honor his cronies at St. Mary's Church Father Garrity Center. Past cronies were you guessed it his parents, lol, the owners of Cafe Ah Roma (LARGE DONATORS THIS ELECTION YEAR), and none other than Cyril Kleems friends John Herman and his wife. John Herman was the friend that was indicted along with Mayor Beardman's brother John Kleem for fraud. I guess his volunteering was pretty helpful for the Kleems. More to come on that one. We will keep you posted on the felony indictments of the mayor's family member.
Also coming to fruition this wonderful year of 2012 is the Mendulak v. Kleem/City of Berea lawsuit. It seems to be moving right along with trial coming up in a couple of weeks. More Kleem screw up$? I guess we'll find out. I am so excited for the public records on THAT case to be released.
Another interesting item this year is Van Dress and his ridiculous democratic BS run against Kathleen Sutula for Judge in Common Pleas Court. Sutula is a remarkable Judge and I hope she kicks your slimy butt Dean-o. Good Luck on that clock cleaning!! Best wishes to all of our most ethical and truthful politicians of Berea. It is going to be a fun 2 and 4 years continuing my free speech initiative against the crooked establishment of Berea.
Close Call
The Kleem Team was sweating it. After those absentees came through they thought it was a slam dunk. But, wait, more results. Hey Gene closed that gap by a huge margin. Cyril started sweating. The energy got low and not a creature was stirring. Hours and hours went by with nothing from the board. What could be taking so long? Then, the final number. 52% to 48% and Teflon man did it again. The regime is falling but it will take ONE more election and another great candidate. I know it is premature but C'mon Gene!! Give us one more!
Council at large had a rough time. Deano was so close to be tossed out too! 180 more votes and Van Dress would have been toast. Pretty impressive from Carlson. Not too much campaigning and people ready to elect a newbie who was not a dem!! Wow.
Move over Margarette Key because you took a whooping from Simmons, a Republican. No. Did I say republican? Sure did and we are almost ready. Let me tell you. The fly on the wall in the Kleem camp is saying there are lots of people shook up today. 18 months and it is on again. Get ready and let's knock it out of the park in 2013!!
Letters, Leaves and Lawsuits...
**JUST SO THIS IS CLEAR. MR.PHELPS FILED THE LAWSUIT, NOT THE EEOC. EEOC GIVES AN OPINION WHETHER OR NOT THEY THINK THAT THERE WAS DISCRIMINATION/RETALIATION. HOPE THAT CLEARS UP ANY QUESTIONS.
So I am expecting some literature over the course of this last weekend before the election. I sift through my mail on Saturday, and this envelope struck me as interesting. I open it and start reading. I pause for 3 seconds flip it over to see who it was written by. Barb and Jack Draves.
These are very prominent and respected individuals here in Berea. They are active in our community and care deeply about Berea. Now, I do not know them, only in passing but my observations give me this opinion. I would like to publicly thank them for stepping outside of the box and vocalizing what needs to be said. I am not the only one anymore.
Four years ago I did what probably not many would do. It has not been easy being the "loud" one. My family has suffered and that was expected. But to witness the uncovering of the truth in Berea was my only hope by being loud, proud and from what many of you called "crazy."
It makes me feel good that other residents have figured out what I knew they always would. Time always tells and God shows people in mysterious ways.
Also, this weekend I heard about the leaf cleanup, spearheaded by our mayor. This is such an "awesome" event for him since it is for the seniors in Berea. Cyril gets his group together (which I think has dwindled significantly, if you looked at the list of Zacharyasz supporters) and they go raking right before the election. Now the leaves have only but half way fallen, so I wonder if Cyril will go clean up for those seniors in 2 weeks, after the election is over? Anyway, I hear that one older woman, who just so happens to have Kleems opponents sign in her yard, had a half ass clean up. There were some comments made and they left rather quickly. Pretty sad Kleem Team. I guess discrimination runs rather rampant here...which leads into the discrimination federal lawsuit filed Thursday.
Thursday November 3, Firefighter Phelps filed in US District Court, Case #1:2011-CV-02374, Phelps v. City of Berea, OH and Kenneth Adams. Federal and state discrimination and retaliation charges. This was after the opinion of The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to move forward against Berea and Adams. The US EEOC is an agency of the United States Government that enforces the federal employment discrimination laws. Information about discrimination on the basis of age, sex and sexual harassment), race, color, national origin age (40 or older), disability or genetic information.
Okay so now we have Mendeluk lawsuit, Phelps federal suit, class action against city and court coming and another city suit filed July of last year. How many more times can our great city hit the Plain Dealer this month? How much more can we take? Tuesday is more important than ever before, so I hope ALL of you get out and vote.
Berea Muni Court...
There has finally been a decision regarding the Berea Municipal Court. Judge Ambrose decided that the court did overcharge for dismissals and that we, the taxpayers, will have to refund those fees.
The attorneys for the plaintiffs can now move forward with the class action suit against our court, which in actuality is the responsibility of our city.
I have to ask myself, as I am sure many of you are questioning, why does the negative always land in Berea? This is wrong on so many levels I hardly know where to even begin. The court costs that were charged were for dismissed cases and broke state law.
Just the other day our mayor was again in the metro section of the Plain Dealer. It was stated that the Land Bank also broke the law by going against the county executive, Ed Fitzgerald, and being reappointed to that board. My question is did that Cuyahoga County Land Bank buy any of the foreclosed homes that were owned by our mayors brother, who was indicted on mortgage fraud charges a few weeks ago.
HOW MANY LAWS ARE GOING TO BE
BROKEN BEFORE THE BEREA
VOTERS WAKE THE HELL UP?
Last week via correspondence, Dale Lange released to his colleagues (well, the mayor) an annual budget problem. It is looking like the Berea Court is short roughly $94,000 and that money will HAVE to be made up by our general fund. It is against the law I believe for the court to operate in the red, but I bet the good ole'boys won't be breaking THAT state law. C'mon Berea, aren't we better than this?? The link below is the document from Lange. READ IT. Before you vote for ANY of these clowns next Tuesday.

***ALSO*** PLEASE REMEMBER WE DID SPEND $2.1 MILLION TO BUILD A NEW COURTHOUSE, THAT WAS NEVER BUILT. NICE BOYS. REAL NICE.
Unions, Firemen and “leadership”
from council…
On Monday council held their meeting. The legislation titled “promotion” was on third reading and boy was it a fight that the administration wanted to win. What the legislation would have done was open a larger “pool” for Chief and Assistant Chief testing. With the Berea Fire Department having both Chiefs leaving this year, there had to be some reason for the sudden changes about to occur.
The President of the Union for Berea came and spoke, and was asked a particular question about his boss, Chief Novak that I thought was very inappropriate. Councilman Key asked what the Chief thought of the changes proposed. The fireman answered “he went along with it.” Key came back with “your leader just went along with Safety Director Adams and the Police Chief?” The two were discussing the meeting the Chiefs had with Director Adams.
My issue with Keys statement was citing leadership when some of council walks into chambers opening their packet of legislation that they failed to pick up until they went to the meeting. The packet is meant to be looked over BEFORE the meeting so they can do their jobs. I feel that the decision has already been made prior to the public meeting for some council members and they will go along with whatever the Mayor and administration wants.
This hand picked council lacked leadership, until they voted upon this promotion legislation. It was a 4-3 vote with the promotion legislation dying. Of course, Lange, Van Dress and Key voted yes for Uncle Cyril and Haschka, Maxwell, Banaszak and Malott voted no. What you have is 3 “good” Democrats, 1 smart Independent and 3 Democrats who should never receive ONE FRIGGIN’ DIME FROM LABOR! If you want to run as a Dem, then support the foundation of your party, ya morons.
With SB5 hitting the unions hard and scaring people to their core, what Democratic Mayor steps up with Director Ken Adams to screw with these hard working laborers even more? Oh just Cyril Kleem. Thank God four of these Council members are starting to understand what is going on inside the walls of city hall in Berea.
Berea Deserves Better
2 November 2011
Updated on Nov. 6th. Read the update at the conclusion of this essay, or click here.
– by Mike Murray
I seldom agree with Plain Dealer political editorials. But such is the case with respect to a specific assertion within the PD’s Berea mayoral endorsement: Berea does deserve better.
Those who know me (or have read my sundry commentaries over the past decade) know that I have no affection for Cyril Kleem. I believe him to be the beneficiary of considerable help from Democrat party honchos — including, perhaps, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason. It’s conceivable that Kleem began his career in politics as one of the many ponies in Mason’s stable of young hopefuls. Or maybe he was a protégé of former Cuyahoga County Democratic Party Chairman Jimmy Dimora, or of Brooklyn’s then-kingpin (now deceased) Mayor John Coyne.
Whatever the case, Kleem cut his government-service teeth in positions that appeared to be created specifically for him. What benefits accrued to the citizens of Berea, relative to the cost of his compensation during that period, is subject to debate. (There are those who believe that Kleem spent the bulk of his time serving Downtown Cleveland party bosses, rather than Bereans.)
Regardless, the “community development” experience netted Kleem a measure of gravitas, and enabled him to run for our city’s highest elective office. His campaign four years ago was extremely well funded. From where the cash came — and to whom Kleem might have been consequently beholden — is a mystery (to me, anyway).
Then there is the matter of Kleem’s endorsement by the News Sun. There is only one word that adequately describes the Sun’s role in the 2007 mayoral race: cheerleader. (Okay, two: “disgraceful” also applies.) The paper’s over-the-top endorsement editorials, coupled with its sale of front-page ad space to the Kleem campaign — in the issue published just prior to the general election — amounted to a travesty of journalism. (The paper has acquitted itself no better, by the way, in this year’s campaign. See: Sun Shines on Cuyhoga Dems and End Anonymous Editorials To those who still consider the Sun to be an objective source for news and analysis: I’ve got some terrific land in Florida I’d like to speak to you about.)
The upshot is that Kleem wasn’t so much elected Mayor of Berea as he was installed in the position by powerful (or what passes for “powerful,” around these parts) political forces.
I concede that, during the last four years, Kleem has done a fair job as mayor. If I were to grade him, I’d give him a C+, maybe even a B-. But his documented emotional and physical setbacks are deeply troubling. Perhaps he is now healthy. Perhaps he is not. But he’s had serious problems in the past. Problems that he did not handle well.
And, again, I am troubled by the way in which he attained office in the first place. Simply put, I don’t care for the way behind-the-scenes manipulators have sought to control Berea politics. And Cyril Kleem, it seems to me, is the poster boy for those kinds of shenanigans.
On the other hand, many Bereans know next to nothing about Kleem’s opponent: Gene Zacharyasz. Yes, yes, I know — his family’s ties to Berea go back generations. He points that out in nearly all of his campaign literature. But this isn’t a seniority contest. (If it were, we’d simply locate the adult Berean whose genealogy traces back the furthest, and appoint him or her mayor.) Frankly, I’m growing weary of the “I’m more Berean because I was born here, raised here, attended school here,” etc. argument.
My retort: I’m a Berean by choice, not by chance. I was neither born here nor attended grade- middle- or high-school here. (I did earn degrees — bachelor’s and master’s — from Baldwin-Wallace College. But I began study there while residing elsewhere.) I am a native of Cleveland. Cleveland proper. But, over a quarter-century ago, I elected to move here. And for most of the time between then and now, I have called Berea home. I am proud of my affiliation with both Cleveland and Berea.
And I acknowledge that it’s reasonable for other folks to be similarly proud of their roots, and to express their deep affection for Berea — or for any other town. But I don’t buy the notion that lengthy generational tenure is a major qualification (or any qualification at all, really) for election to public office. As a consequence, I find Zacharyasz’ implication that his family’s long affiliation with Berea should encourage voters to support him a little off-putting.
Neither is membership in the Chamber of Commerce a form of “community service.” Business owners join such organizations because doing so is good for their companies’ bottom lines. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. My BA and MBA degrees are testament to my belief in the legitimacy of the pursuit of business success. To me, “profit” is not a dirty word.
But don’t try to sell me on the notion that membership in business-oriented community organizations constitutes a form of public service, or that it imbues a candidate with any particular credential for elected office.
That said, successful business ownership certainly does provide valuable managerial experience to executive-branch governmental officials. I think we’d all be better off if our elected officials — particularly those seeking to serve as mayors, governors, and presidents — had some real-world experience at the senior level. And even running a small business (sometimes especially running a small business, with every aspect under your constant purview) qualifies.
All of which argues in favor of Zacharyasz. What argues against him is obvious: A complete lack of governmental experience. To my knowledge, he has never served on city council or worked for the City of Berea in any capacity. And, just as there is something to be said for private-sector business experience, there surely is much to be said for public-sector governmental experience — especially if one wishes to serve as a city’s highest elected official.
Finally, there is the matter of the candidates’ respective lists of resident endorsements. Together, they comprise quite a compilation of Who’s Who in Berea. During the run-up to the primary election, I was annoyed by the list distributed by the Kleem campaign (see: Buzzards Return to Berea ). The notion — put forth in the flyer — that Kleem was the victim of “dirty politics” was beyond the pale. It was also disturbing that among those listed as Kleem supporters was the immediate-past editor of the News Sun — the very person responsible for the paper’s previous (and, perhaps, present) Kleem favoritism.
And then, recently, attached to my front door was a similar list of names of Bereans who support Zacharyasz. I was relieved to see that the flyer did not stoop to the Kleem campaign’s level, in that it did not whine about “the other side’s” tactics (although a little complaining about the News Sun’s editorial behavior would have been justified). But what did jump out at me were the names included on the list. Some people who supported Kleem four short years ago clearly do not any more. What happened to sour them on Cyril? Many listed are staunch Democrats, as is Kleem. And many are (or, at least, have been in the past) on very good terms with the county’s Democratic leadership — as, one supposes, Kleem is as the party’s endorsed incumbent. So what gives?
Even stranger is the assortment of names. People who have a history as bitter political adversaries now identify themselves as united in support of Zacharyasz. Bizarre. I know that politics makes for strange bedfellows, but I still find this to be a fascinating turn of events. One lately needs a scorecard to keep track of the players — and their current affiliations in Berea.
Bottom line: Neither candidate, as the Plain Dealer suggests, is perfect.
Cyril Kleem represents much of what I detest about how the political game is played. He achieved office — in my judgement — via a royal road, one paved by people who wanted someone friendly to their interests at the helm of Berea government. And his health issues (physical and emotional) should be real concerns — even to his supporters. Still, as policy wonks go, Kleem is competent. Absent any malfeasance of which we are not aware, he has done a reasonably acceptable job as mayor.
Gene Zacharyasz is a political rookie. And rookies don’t usually start at the top. (I know, I know: being mayor of Berea hardly represents the pinnacle of political power. But it’s the top elective post in town.) Perhaps a stint on city council would have been a more appropriate place to begin. Still, Zacharyasz’ business ownership gives him managerial experience. And it doesn’t appear that he’s the toady of any outside forces looking to pull the strings in Berea (although I confess that a few of the names on his supporters list give me pause).
Opportunities for significant political change infrequently present themselves in Berea. Zacharyasz reflects such an opportunity. But he is unproven (and his outside alliances, if any, are unknown). Kleem has done okay as mayor, but he is accompanied by plenty of baggage. I won’t try to influence your vote by revealing mine. But I will say that, either way, I will have to hold my nose to some degree while marking my ballot.

Update: I had intended, when I posted this essay (on Nov 2nd) to refrain from offering an endorsement in this year’s mayoral race. But I have since reconsidered.
I now deem Cyril Kleem to be too dysfunctional to serve. As a consequence, I believe Berea voters should deny him a second term.
Yes, I did give his administration a passing grade in my original essay. But I now conclude that the credit for that rightfully belongs to other city officials — who have persevered under trying conditions.
I retain concerns about Gene Zacharyasz’ lack of governmental experience (and also about some of the people with whom he seems affiliated). Nevertheless, I now believe him to be the better choice.
I will, therefore, be voting for Zacharyasz for Mayor of Berea on November 8th.

Suspension of the 3 reading rule??
Council Meeting September 6, 2011 @ 730
The agenda for this Tuesday has this piece of codified ordinance as "2nd reading." The agenda is very vague only stating:
For Second Reading
Ord. 6-5
b. AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 135.17, TITLED “PROMOTION”,
OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BEREA. (6-5)
CHAPTER 135
Civil Service Commission
135.17 PROMOTION.
(a) Eligibility. Any person in the classified service may be examined for promotion pursuant to the provisions of this chapter, without regard to time or seniority served or held in the present grade.
(b) Method of Promotion. Promotion in the classified service shall be made on the basis of examination by the Commission pursuant to the provisions of this chapter, particularly at Section 135.09 hereof.
All examinations for promotion shall be competitive among all members of the next lower rank or class immediately beneath the rank or class of the vacant position to be filled, provided however, that not fewer than three persons shall be certified to compete in such examination. In the event that fewer than three persons are eligible for promotion from the next lower rank or class or, for any other reason, the Commission is advised that fewer than three persons are willing to compete in any proposed promotional examination, then all members of the second lower rank or class shall be eligible to compete in such proposed promotional examination.
(c) Certification. Whenever a promotion is to be made in the classified service, the appointing authority shall make a written request to the Commission for the certification of eligible candidates. Upon receipt of such request, the Commission shall certify to the appointing authority the names and addresses of three persons standing highest upon the promotional examination given pursuant to Section 135.17(b) hereof, provided however, that no person shall be certified to the appointment authority who has previously been removed from the service of the City for cause.
(d) Appointment. The appointing authority shall promote any one of the three persons certified to such appointing authority by the Commission.
Subpoena Flying?
Ooh boy have the hotlines been cooking here at The Post! Chatter on the street is that the wrongful termination lawsuit against the City of Berea and the Mayor personally, had 30-35 subpoena's sent out. That will be one docket to ask for the public record on. I have not heard how many individuals are being deposed, but the 30-35 people are mostly city employees. Hmmm...I wonder how they will testify? Will they do the right thing or will they lie to keep their jobs? Time will tell and we will tell you, because no matter how hard they try to get rid of me, I am still here. So is The Berea Post!
Senior Center Planning?
Reports are coming in stating that a worker from the Senior Center walked out on Thursday September 1. Allegedly there was a meeting with good 'ole mayor and the woman walked out. I guess she had enough! More information will be forthcoming in the next week or so. We will update on any developments. But boy do I wonder what those seniors will think.
Another letter...
Every time a letter is received here at The Post, while opening it is always a little scary. Will it be threats against the outspoken nature of this site? Will it be something of interest to the voting public? 9 out of 10 times it is always very intriguing information.
Mayor Kleem and his allies may say that we wrote the letter ourself and mailed it to our own address, since we think it is assumed so many things are done by one person around town. But, no chance mayor. The newest addition to our letters was a very interesting one.
I will explain. It seems a certain employee of our city may have been involved in a discriminatory/retaliatory hiring event and that there may be some involvement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC). The EEOC is responsible for enforcing federal laws based on race, color, religion, origin, age, disability or genetic information. We shall see how this one pans out for good 'ole mayor.
Clarity Needed..You
know what we are
talking about! And Dale
It has to be a careful venture. You know who you are. The information is good, but more is needed. Keep up the excellent work and more coming??
Also, the sewer meeting at City Hall was very highly attended, all except one councilman, Lange. Although he had another death of an aunt (Opinion: Aunt Betty died nine times now) he did show to the American Legion to witness Walters hair being chopped off for charity. Come on Dale, you can do better than that.
With that all Precinct members/executive DON'T forget to go to the "meeting" where you will appoint Cyril Kleems friends Ken Adams and Linda Marginian. That is tonight at 7pm.
SEWER RATS AT CITY
HALL WITH EGG ON
THEIR FACE?
Rumor has it that Cyril Kleem, the lackluster mayor we all love, is too busy to help the residents of Berea with the sewer issues. He was too busy getting votes over at Lou Groza Park. By votes I mean observing the playground redo at Groza Field. Then I also hear that Mr. Mayor was also pressure washing his house due to it being vandalized with eggs.
Can't he just be left alone? Norman would love it if we all left her little bro alone!! Norman is such a busy body, in our opinion at The Post, that we hear she runs to Ken Adams whining about the Kleems problems. Like does this wench have anything better to do than get a crew cut and complain to our highly paid director? Just because your brother is the mayor does not exclude you from life happening. Hey Norma, go book another date with Turkey Jones and quit talking your crap, because big brother is watching. You never know who has a recording device. Stupid beauty queens...how that happened I will never know. Oh that's right we heard it was a paid pageant, like you pay for the sash and become a beauty queen. Of course, all just opinion.

City Employees doubling

appointees??
Word on the street has Ken Adams Berea's Safety Director and Linda Marginian appointed under Tom Norton to the empty Cuyahoga County Democratic Party seats. Tom Norton is also a City of Berea employee.
If memory serves me well, Jimmy Dimora was raided at party headquarters due to the "You rub me, I'll rub you mentality."
Fitzgerald, Cuyahoga County's highest ranking officer in the "new" county government system, has enforced the law behind County Employees serving for political party seats within the county. Let's all sit back and see if the law may be enforced for city workers too! After all they all pay into the same retirement.
Many years until the dirt is sifted through on the ole Cuyahoga...wink wink.
Vacation's Over??
After the staff and volunteers at The Berea Post took a few weeks for rest and relaxation to gear up for the November election, this is what was in our inbox. I suppose that the city officials have no time to fix sewer problems or to address residents of Berea, but they do have time to harass one of the founders of this News Site. Quite comical that in their loving post, they swear worse than sailors/Teamster Truck Drivers but call one of the writers trash. I think the phantom writer should take a long deep look at themself and look who is white trash. Late night love affairs with married women=trash. Married women who mess around and throw their children under the bus in Olmsted Falls School System=priceless. VISA commercial for Berea. Sicko's. The truth hurts Kleemers.

CLARITY...& VIOLENT
TOMATOES
Just for some clarity, there were no tomatoes thrown during the parade. The title to our last post was just a pun. Have any of you heard of tomatoes being thrown at someone out of dislike? It was simply an expression, and of course freedom of speech and expression. Last time we checked the Constitution was still in effect in Berea.
I also believe that Bereans have enough class not to throw tomatoes at someone during a parade. Although many would love to take out pent up using energy using vegetables, nobody actually does it. So for all of our readers thank you for keeping your eyes and ears open to what our critics say. The Berea Post will be up and running until we run out of things to say.
DON'T FORGET YOUR
TOMATOES!
As the Fourth of July Parade is approaching we are getting so excited here at The Berea Post. It is sure to be a special year as we have heard of only one parade participant having a discriminatory letter.
All persons receive a letter to be a part of the parade. As you guessed it, you have to return your form to Norma Kleem. In prior years she has limited who is allowed in the gate, what vehicles, and many other obstacles have been put up. This year the letter was the same as prior years, all except one. One persons letter stated that only Berea City Fire Trucks were allowed in. Why? Well if the City Club gets their donated fire truck in, someone could look better on the fire truck. Yes, one letter stated this information. How low can you go? Well the little dictator wants control. Little dictator wants to make sure any opponent is denied like in past years.
Please Sunday July 3rd, DO NOT FORGET YOUR TOMATOES!!! I truly would love to chuck one right at someone in THAT camp. It would be quite enjoyable. Happy Independence Day Berea.
DONATIONS WANTED
In one of the recent Berea Newsletters, the city was asking for sponsorships regarding the Grindstone Festival, Outdoor Movies, Fireworks etc.
These are being solicited due to the fact that our City Club was denied giving funds that were raised to benefit our city to the events.
Instead, we the taxpayers are being taken for a ride, in my opinion. The city coffers will pay any difference in these events and of course sponsors will give to make sure during this mighty election year that all events go on as scheduled.
Why would the city turn down free money? Well that is something we all need to ask our Mayor, that is if he will return our calls and if he is at city hall. Many persons have commented that he is not present very often. If you go looking for said vehicles, the green one is usually not even at work. That green truck would be the Mayors.
The Berea City Club should be able to find somewhere to utilize their funds in the many positive ways they have always been put to good use. In the meantime, I do not agree with taxpayer dollars going towards what I call CAMPAIGN TACTICS/EVENTS.
**UPDATE**
Disgusted, a person writing into The Post whom relates themself to Mayor Kleem as an "ally", is attacking the children of Berea. We received an anonymous phone call stating that the disgusting individual was Kleems mistress. Although these reports are unconfirmed we have serious reason to believe that the anonymous tipster was not far off. In our opinion we thought more along the lines of an actual Kleem family member, but we could be wrong.Thank you to everyone for their emails and calls about this very serious issue we have going on in Berea. Keep talking to your children about safety and strangers. You may want to also tell you children to stay away from the Kleems too, just an opinion. Pretty wicked, weird people in our opinion. **Please also note, The Berea Post has gone back to the approval mode of all entries due to the fact that children are being attacked by apparent Post opposition. If you write in, we will approve all posts after submittal through the portal. When the twisted persons quit attacking children that were approached by strangers, we will go back to immediate posting capability. Thank you for your patience.
ATTENTION??
Here at The Berea Post, we take any issues with children very seriously. Recently, there have been a couple of events in Berea involving children and strangers. We would all hope community members take this seriously and get the word out about this to their own children/grandchildren.
Instead, the Kleem Team members who hate one of our writers, decide to attack the victim and their family members. This is an obvious display of the character traits and inhumane behaviors that these people display. In my opinion, I would think having an extramarrital affair with an elected official is attention seeking in nature. Like anyone would ever want their child to go through an event like this in their life. Thank God neither of these Berea children went with the stranger.
**SIDENOTE
A GREETING WAS POSTED ON THIS SITE 6/9/11 ATTACKING ONE FAMILY OF CHILD LURING. WHAT A SICKO! THIS BEHAVIOR IS JUST AS SICK AS A MAN APPROACHING CHILDREN IN OUR CITY. THE NAME OF THE VICTIMS PARENT WAS REMOVED FROM THE GREETING FOR OBVIOUS PRIVACY REASONS AND TO PROTECT THE CHILD.
UNDER THE TRESSEL &
MARRIED WOMEN
With the unbelievable resignation of Coach Tressel from Ohio State, I wondered if he would come back to Berea. My own opinion is that he would be an absolute asset to helping the Berea Braves learn and be coached better. Then I thought of how far Dale Lange might possibly crawl up Coach Tressels behind and I had to rethink my thoughts. In all seriousness, will Dale still be as big a fan of the Bucks? Time will tell and it appears Dale likes to hang with men of appropriate distinction, if you know what I mean.
Also, concerning married women in Berea, I really suggest all husbands keeping an eye on the mayor and their wife. If any of you were paying attention during the parade it seems Mayor was really liking the closeness of one young, pretty councilwoman. My opinion is that any wife could be his next prey and I really would not want you to find him looking around your home when you pull in one night. So please, keep your wives at a distance in Berea.

First Edition "OUTING OLMSTED"
ELECTIONS PANEL RESOLVES COMPLAINTS AGAINST OLMSTED FALLS MAYOR AFTER PAYMENT OF $44,200 IN FINES
The Ohio Elections Commission on Thursday resolved all pending complaints against a Cleveland area Mayor and asked that the Attorney General's office to halt attempts to collect a balance of an accumulated $127,000 in fines. Mayor Robert Blomquist of Olmsted Falls told the panel he already paid $44,200 of the levies previously imposed for failing to file campaign finance reports. "I've advanced substantial amounts towards these fines," Mr. Blomquist told the commission, explaining that he refinanced his home to generate the money. "You can imagine it's been a financial hardship." Mayor Blomquist acknowledged his responsibility for the violations outlined in eight cases dating to 1997. He apparently ignored previous commission actions on referrals from the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections, and fine amounts kept accumulating. "I'm here, quite frankly because of inattention to detail," he said. "The longer it went on the more embarassing it got." The commission, generally agreeing with a recommendation of Executive Director Philip Richter, unanimously approved a motion to reconsider all previous matters involving Mr. Blomquist, find a violation in some cases, dismiss or withdraw others, and impose a fine of $44,200 to reflect the amount already paid. The motions specified the Attorney Generals office be notified that all matters have been resoved and that any attempts to collect fines from the mayor should halt. "It seems to me you've paid enough," said William Booth the commission chairman.
** Point of information: Republican mayor, with a Republican Governor and Attorney General. ( Taft & Montgomery).
** More to come on Outing Olmsted with EPA violations, finance issues dating back several years and noncompliance with State of Ohio Sunshine Laws. STAY TUNED...
POINT OF INFORMATION
Tonight the City of Berea was hit badly by a terrible storm. There are so many trees down, power lines down, streets were flooded, debris all around, branches etc. We even saw a garage crushed by a tree and a car with a tree on top of it. So glad to hear that as of now, no one was hurt in this powerful storm. Neighbors were helping neighbors which is something good that comes out of these types of things.
Power was out at Polish Village and by the American Legion, so if you would like to "Ask Dale" any questions tonight, you may find him at Mike's, since they had electricity.
NICE GUY...REAL GOOD
MAYOR
"Mayor Kleem threatened Ms. Mendeluk that she must communicate these lies to Ms. Stackhouse if she wanted to keep her job. Ms. Mendeluk, in fear of loosing her job, complied with Mayor Kleem's demands."
"Ms. Stackhouse indicated she arrived home to find that Mayor Kleem had entered her property without permission."
Mayor Kleem called Kelly Mendeluk a "fucking bitch" and shouted "Fuck your family" and "Fuck your kids." Mayor Kleem told Ms. Mendeluk that she would never get a recommendation and would be lucky to work at Pizza King.

READ ALL ABOUT IT!!
This link is a shout out to all of the voters who did not do any research before voting May 3rd. If the Kleem Team members did not have their heads rammed up Cyril's derriere maybe they could have had a thought of their own and done the ethical, morally righteous thing for the community we all call home!

Olde Towne Politics...
Last night there was a council meeting at City Hall. There were quite a few folks in attendance, including the father of the mayors alleged married girlfriend.
The mayor was not in attendance, he had other business to attend to. We cannot forget the ex-editor from the newspaper and her cohort reporter. I thought that Kramer retired, but since she comes to every meeting I guess I was misinformed.
Citizens did get up to vocalize themselves about some issues in the city. The city owned vehicle the mayor drives came up again, with only stutters from Lange and anti answers from Van Dress. I am sure there will be more on the mayor driving our vehicle for free and taking a car allowance for absolutely no vehicle, because he does not have one anymore. I call that theft.
After the meeting there was a Kleem Team huddle outside that consisted of Van Dress, Andy Fay (aka Big Daddy) and good ole' Georgia Bobinsky. Then corruption investigator of Berea walks out says "hello" to Bobinsky and proceeds to be chewed out by Georgia.
Here is some of what she said...
"This is all your fault" which is pretty wacked out. I guess with age comes forgetfulness. Georgia is either forgetting the mayor's actions created his own problems or she is one of "THOSE" voters. Keep drinking the Kool Aid Georgie.
Andy Fay then goes on to call Berea's own corruption investigator out and say " If I am a pimp, then I have a job for you."
HAHAHAHAHA. Really Andy? Call a woman a whore in City Hall. I think you could look alot closer to your own door and find a "worker."
I heard she is real nice and will protect any of her "boys" if need be and I also heard rumor her daddy protects her "boys" too.
Both of these said persons were a part of the letter that was circulated by the Kleem Team before the primary. The letter was a manipulation of the facts and truth. Cyril Kleem in my opinion, has done a real great job fooling, protecting, covering up and lying to make these people verbally attack another resident.
ALL Bereans are able to voice themselves if they so choose whether it be on a blog, at a public meeting or to their friend/neighbor. There are also no laws against a resident/taxpayer bringing truth to the city they live in. If anyone wants to make public requests and bring forth information that shows impropriety that is their right.
Keep on judging the wrong persons. Keep believing your fairy tale that this was a set up. I certainly did not tell the mayor to hook up with a married woman, take trucks to Olmsted, lie to the media and his constituents, break into said married woman's home on Cranston and then cover the whole thing up. That was not anyone's fault but Cyril Kleem. He has nobody to blame for this charade but himself.
By the way fay, if you have such a huge problem with this website, quit coming and reading it. Just a little common sense.
That house on Olde Towne cannot be put up for sale SOON ENOUGH...bye-bye.
Shame on that Team
The disgusting and unnecessary display of filth in this town just cannot be ignored. The manipulation to twist a situation so as to look as a "set up"/ mudslinging is just dispicable. Go to channel 5 news read the police reports for yourself. The only reason in my opinion the ill Mayor was not arrested for burglary and stalking/trespassing was because of politics. Any other citizen in the USA would have been charged. Listen to the tapes, then tell me you support this behavior. No leader should ever do these acts and put a married woman into the spotlight. That would be called a homewrecker.
The worst problem is that the Mayor is allegedly LYING!!! Cyril M. Kleem was lying and being dishonest as a public figure in my opinion. Will he ever go to the state or federal level of government with this in his background? This makes the naked, drunkened mayor of Brook Park look like a Saint.
Innocent employees have been fired over not lying for their boss Cyril Kleem. That is not ethical, as he preaches to the world. Ethics mean you do not have a married lover, you do not stalk her when she decides to go to her husbands side at the holidays, you do not take a Berea City vehicle and go looking through windows and then stoop so low and enter her private residence without permission. BURGLARY IS A FELONY CHARGE! DISGUSTING.
Now, we have one pending lawsuit and another we heard of just the other day. Why has the Newspaper not reported on that?
Copy and paste these links to your browser. It will most likely ask you permission. Click yes these are just audio files. It will take 10-15 minutes to upload to your computer and then you will listen to what the News Sun did not allow you to find out. These are the facts of the Criminal Investigation of the Mayor of Berea Cyril M. Kleem. The News Sun keeps deleting these links on their blog when posted. Make informed decisions, not misleading by supposed writers. If the News Sun was not being so biased, people would not be so up in arms about all this.
MOST IMPORTANTLY VOTE THIS TUESDAY MAY 3, 2011!!
Brook Park/Broke Park
A place where political welfare runs a muck.
We have Dennis "Pad his pockets" Patten, once Union now since he's Service Director we have part-time workers that work almost full time with no benefits, just wonderful. Doing a job like a Service Workers does all that labor and no health care. He's much like the French he often changes his colors to benefit himself.
Mayor Ediot well that says enough, he has hired a bunch of friends then says we have too many employees .. you hired them idiot..Well I get rid of Police and Fire no one will notice. Oh yes I'll pay City Hall workers 40 hour and they can only work 35.Shh they're my friends.
Streets Program is going real well all those bumps in the streets have been strategically placed , this way when all the police retire this summer , those bumps can monitor traffic, you know as speed bumps so that our Officers can do more important jobs.
Looking forward to Brook Park/Home Days watching a bunch of under aged children drinking then fighting, I hope our Senior Citizen Volunteer Patrol is out in full force that weekend.
-As written by a Brook Park citizen. Thanks for the input Brook Park! We will be sure to keep an eye out in YOUR community.
Embattled City

Beset by problems or difficulties
- the worst may not be over for the embattled mayor
The May 3rd Primary Offical Count information will be out May 24th. Of the 1591 Absentee ballots received, 80 votes were thrown out, or 5%.
There are 134 Absentee ballots left to count that were received in time. 34 Provisionals will also be verified for the official number.
The deadline for contesting the election is May 31st and costs $55 per precinct, or $825 for the entire city of Berea.
Some people have expressed concern over the fact that so many people are asking how the current regime won this. One employee of a local business stated she thought there could be election fraud concerning this race.
Maybe people have a point maybe they do not. When little senior ladies at Giant Eagle are overheard talking and saying " Don't blame us seniors, we did not do this," you do have to wonder.
With all of the complex issues Berea is facing I sincerely hope that Cyril Kleem will not be so mean to the next candidate, but that is probably wishful thinking. He will probably make himself a victim again. POOR, POOR CYRIL KLEEM. Everyone is out to get him. Right?
NOT THE MAYOR I
KNOW?? REALLY WHO
IS THE MAYOR?
Last night as reported on the news, Jim Walters the "acting" Law Director stated to reporters that this was not the mayor he knew. Just what is the mayor he knows.
Is the mayor Walters knows a nice man who does not enter homes without permission? Is the mayor Jim knows a man with integrity who does not lie when questioned on camera? Is the mayor Jim knows a man who shows up to work EVERY SINGLE DAY ready to work for the residents of this community? Is the mayor a man that holds the upmost moral standards and does not have relations with married people? Is the mayor Walters knows a man who did not order an employee of this city to lie to police investigating him? Just what does Walters really know?
I know that I believe in Law Enforcement. I believe that they investigate every person that is implicated in unlawful activity. If Cyril wants to keep on saying this is mudslinging/propaganda, the next time anyone gets pulled over they can then argue that we do not take laws seriously. Berea allows laws to be broken? If you are a commoner you will be charged. If you are a politician/elected official, you get passes because the prosecutors don't want to rock the boat. Gimme a break...just who is the mayor YOU know?
LAWSUIT WAS
FILED....TAXES GOING
UP??
It is official. The suit has been filed against the city of Berea for unlawful discharge of one of our city employes/directors.
The suit filed today is for 2 Million dollars. I know that the Berea voters have been fooled, along with many others.
Why is Cyril Kleem even running again? I think it is all ego and that his sister loves to be in the spotlight. I do not know if Norman could handle just going back to being an average "Joe."
The brainwashed voters were forewarned but went ahead full steam without a thought. How careless to put their self serving interests before the city we all love. Once the double dipping that is being looked at by State Auditor's and this lawsuit come to fruition, I hope that some Bereans apologize to the rest of us.
The truck double dipping is under Berea codified ordinance. It is section 181.02 and states that our mayor can receive either a city owned/paid for vehicle or an allowance of $650 per month. As of the first payroll of April, the mayor quit taking the allowance once I had requested all of the records to forward on to Columbus.
I hope all the "cult" like voters are just delighted with their uninformed, uneducated vote for a person who in my opinion, needs to be cleaned right out of this town. A watchdog would have made a better mayor.

Captive Hearts, Captive Minds
Freedom and Recovery from Cults and Abusive Relationships
By Madeleine L. Tobias and Janja Lalich
Chapter one excerpts – The Cultic Relationship.
Cults may be large or small. What defines them is not their size but their behavior. In addition to the larger, more publicized cults, there are small cults of less than a dozen members who follow a particular “guru”; “family cults,” where the head of the family uses deceptive and excessive persuasion and control techniques; and probably the least acknowledged, the one-on-one cult.
The one-on-one cult is a deliberately manipulative and exploitative intimate relationship between two persons, often involving physical abuse of the subordinate partner. In the one-on-one cult, which we call a cultic relationship, there is a significant power imbalance between the two participants. The stronger uses his (or her) influence to control, manipulate, abuse, and exploit the other. In essence the cultic relationship is a one-on-one version of the larger group. It may even be more intense than participation in a group cult since all the attention and abuse is focused on one person, often with more damaging consequences.
Many marriages or domestic partnerships where there is spousal abuse may be characterized and explained in this way. Other one-on-one cults may be found in boss/employee situations, in pastor/worshipper milieus, in therapist/client relationships, in jailor/prisoner or interrogator/suspect situations, and in teacher/student environments (including academic, artistic, and spiritual situations – for example, a school professor, a yoga master, a martial arts instructor, or an art mentor). It is our hope that those who have suffered such individualized abuse will find much in this book to identify with and use in healing their pain.
Since the upsurge of both public and professional interest in the issue of domestic violence, there has been some recognition to the link between mind control and battering. Men or women who batter their partners sometimes use manipulative techniques similar to those found in cults. The most common include “isolation and the provocation of fear; alternating kindness and threat to produce disequilibrium; the induction of guilt, self-blame, dependency, and learned helplessness.” The degree to which these features are present in a relationship affects the intensity of control and allows the relationship to be labeled cultic.
The similarities between cultic devotion and the traumatic bonding that occurs between battered individuals and their abusers are striking. An abused partner is generally made to submit to the following types of behaviors:
•early verbal and/or physical dominance,
•isolation/imprisonment
•fear arousal and maintenance
•guilt induction
•contingent expressions of “love”
•enforced loyalty to the aggressor and self-denunciation
•promotion of powerlessness and helplessness
•pathological expressions of jealousy
•hope-instilling behaviors
•required secrecy (13)
When psychological coercion and manipulative exploitation have been used in a one-on-one cultic relationship, the person leaving such a relationship faces issues similar to those encountered by someone leaving a cultic group.
Voters given Trazidone?
I am a Berea Voter. I am uninformed. I cannot remember who I should have been voting for. You see, my memory has slipped away. I take medications like the mayor for my disease. I have no thoughts of my own. I vote for the endorsed democrat because I still would vote for Dimora. Dimora was supportive of Cyril and so am I. If Cyril Kleem wanted me to jump off a bridge I would for he is my savior and my salvation. When Cyril talks he is so smoothe like butter. I love being lied to. Liars are elected all over. I don't want honesty. Forget about ethics. The newspaper got it right because they are unbiased. So what if Fay sold his daughter out. There are pimps all over Cleveland.
I want to break in Berea homes too! What is so wrong with that? My lupus has the same side effects as Cyril. It makes me act out in unethical ways. I drink Kool Aid. It is my favorite. I like cherry flavor. I like when Uncle Cyril puts trazidone in my Kool Aid. I like when Cyril Kleem has a city owned vehicle and collects the car allowance from us taxpayers. I like Norma. She is so beautiful. Her crown is so pretty. I want to see the royal wedding in Berea. When Cyril gets married, I hope he rides in a carriage like they do in England. My son wants to grow up and turn out just like Uncle Cyril. Who cares if the city is being sued for wrongful termination. The Kleems have money so they will help pay the bill. When the Cleveland Browns leave Uncle Cyril's salary should be high enough to cover the difference. I voted yesterday. The Kleem Team helped all of those seniors over at the nursing home fill in their absentee ballots. They are so wonderful. Cyril didn't write anything negative. He was so positive on all of his literature. We need Cyril. Without Cyril the city will bankrupt. My vote always goes to the candidate who can fool me the most. Cyril is so great! YEAH for Berea!
MAJOR DAMAGE CONTROL
As I was driving down I-71 this afternoon my phone began to ring. I answer it and find myself speaking with a good friend of mine. She asks me if anyone had called me yet today. I explained no and then listened to what she was trying to say.
She tells me that the Police had a few calls about some "suspicious" persons in their yards removing their Plain Dealers this afternoon. I was a slightly puzzled as to what she could possibly be talking about. I guess the Police went to check it out and found either Berea or Olmsted Police reports on properties. My inclination was that these police records were delivered with the Sunday paper. Would the Plain Dealer send those out? Not so sure about it..
I was pretty shocked when I have this gal telling me that someone was that motivated about getting info to Berea residents. I mean if you seriously look at the cost of something like that who could afford to put these on peoples doors and treelawns? Were they at every house in Berea? That is just crazy! Why not just put them online and hope they were read...at any rate what was done was done.
Then after the kind of day I had to be in bed and get a call that again our Mayor was on the news was just as puzzling as the delivery of police reports.
My police report never made it to my doorstep, however alot of my friends/neighbors did receive these records. As word spread through Berea, which does not take too long in Berea, my phone was ringing with people on the other end asking a few questions of me.
One of my girlfriends was on her way to church and found one on her doorstep. When she walked into church she stated alot of people were talking about many of their homes also receiving a report. I mean the report from Berea was thick and Olmsted's was really voluminous so whoever sent these out had money...I mean alot of money.
Interestingly enough, another fact I heard was that the Police allegedly witnessed Cyril Kleems family running onto people's properties and removing the reports from their door. This is what I was told from very reputable sources. I then get a text of someone who also took PHOTOS. Yes. Someone even got pictures of a Kleem Team member taking the reports from Berea homes with the license plate.
Now why would Kleem family members remove them? To risk being seen 2 days prior to election was in my opinion pretty risky. I guess the apple doesn't fall very far from the tree. Do we not learn lessons about trespass? If I come onto your property, it would be for a reason, not for controlling what the public may or may not know about me. Everyone already knew about the reports for the most part anyway, so why worry about it?
Personally, I will be really happy when Tuesday comes and goes so that everone involved can move on and figure out what the future holds in Berea. I think it will be nice to have a slight break from politics until the November election kicks into high gear, which is normally around the 4th of July.
Make sure you go vote this
Tuesday May 3rd for whomever
you feel you can trust with the
keys to our city...and our trucks!
MAY 3rd!! VOTE EARLY AND VOTE OFTEN!! ;)

JUST A FEW OF THE MANY NEWS STORIES ON KLEEM. If you google his name, you will find about 20 different newstories.
OUR TOWN
People in Berea all have their opinions of how they believe our city is being run. And so do I. We are all entitled to voice our opinions if we so choose. I am opinionated and I firmly believe in working together for the good of all.
What I do not believe in is lying, being dishonest, threatening our livelyhood, giving Berea a bad reputation etc. Our city looks like a circus right now. The right steps were not taken regarding this Olmsted truck and the entry into a woman's residence on Cranston by the mayor. We need a leader and no matter what happens on May 3rd I hope that the person we have running our city for four years is mature, honest, likable, social, prompt, at city hall, ethical, non-discriminatory, competent, Christian, clean, correct, decent, fair, honorable, noble, moral, upstanding, proper, principled and right-minded.
I feel extremely bad for the workers at city hall. The majority must be wondering if they are next and where is their future going to go. I hope that Berea can heal and find the urgency in all of this hoopla. Be informed, educate yourselves and your neighbors. Vote on May 3rd for the future of Berea.
WWJD?
As the City of Berea embarks on yet another election cycle, I pray that the people trying desperately to hold on to their positions and get elected think about our city as a whole.
Lately, as seen all over the TV News media outlets and as written in the Plain Dealer, our city looks like we are falling apart at the seams. We really need to pull it together. People are talking about this city all over the county. It is starting to look like a circus around here and it just hurts me and other Berea residents. PLEASE let us stick to the issues, which are clearly present in Berea.
Make your voice heard and get involved. Pick a candidate and help! Most importantly VOTE on May 3rd!!
UNAUTHORIZED USE OF A
MOTOR VEHICLE
The story of a Berea Employee or official using a city vehicle on Christmas is getting more interesting every day. Of course there are rumors, inuendos and heresay but the bottom line is that under Ohio Revised code 2913.03 is a misdemeanor in Ohio. The fact is someone took a Berea City truck on Christmas. It was a Male. The Police Department was taken out of the loop and our Safety Director was put in charge. He is appointed by the Mayor. Ohio law states if you know a crime was committed you must report it. I tried to file a report and could not. I was referred to the Safety Director since he is leading an internal investigation from what I was told. If you were being falsely accused you would do everything in your power to clear your good name. The police are trained and qualified to investigate. Let the police do their jobs. The answer of "we do not know who had that truck" is not good enough for this taxpayer.
2011 ELECTIONS
So far here in Berea, there are only three contested races this year. This means that again all council seats will be unopposed this year. There will be Democratic primaries in the Mayoral race, President of Council and Ward 1 if Margarette Key does pull petitions and file with the Board of Elections. You can vote in the May 3rd primary and the General. Some people do not know this so please if you feel inclined, GO VOTE!!! Your vote does count. May the best Man or Woman win!
